Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser Treatment in Sellersville & New Hope
Targeted treatment for unwanted pigment and tattoo ink.
A Q-switched Nd:YAG laser releases energy in extremely short, powerful pulses that break pigment and tattoo ink into tiny particles. Over the following weeks, your body gradually clears those particles away. The laser has two wavelengths: 1064 nm, which reaches deeper pigment and dark inks, and 532 nm, which treats surface pigment and red, orange, and yellow inks.
Led by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Daniel I. Shrager, our team examines every spot before treatment. A spot that could be skin cancer should never be treated with a laser, so some spots need a closer look, or a biopsy, first.
What it can treat
Sun spots and age spots (solar lentigines), and some freckles
Tattoos, especially black and dark blue ink, plus red and some other colors; see laser tattoo removal
Selected dark marks left behind after acne or skin irritation (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
Melasma is a special case: laser treatment can sometimes make it darker, so we discuss the pros and cons, and other options, before recommending a laser. For wrinkles, texture, and overall rejuvenation, we may recommend MOXI or fractional CO₂ resurfacing instead.
What to expect
Most treatments take only a few minutes. Many patients describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against the skin, and we offer options to keep you comfortable.
Treated sun spots usually darken and may form a light crust for one to two weeks before flaking off. Tattoos and some types of pigment need several sessions spaced weeks apart; we’ll estimate how many at your consultation.
Risks and aftercare
Possible side effects include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, blistering, and temporary lightening or darkening of the treated skin. Scarring is uncommon. Careful settings, a test spot when needed, and strict sun protection before and after treatment help lower these risks.
Is it right for you?
The best way to know is a consultation. We’ll examine the spots or tattoo you want treated, explain whether a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser or another option is the best fit, and review the expected number of sessions and the cost before you decide. Cosmetic laser treatments are generally not covered by insurance.
