Importance of Vitamin D

SUPPLEMENTATION DUE TO SUNSCREEN USE

Vitamin D is a vitamin that is necessary for normal metabolism. It is essential for maintaining bone density. It is made by our skin when our skin is exposed to the sun. Vitamin D cannot be made by our skin unless we are in the sun. Sunscreen use inhibits the synthesis of Vitamin D.

It is recommended that one take a daily supplement of Vitamin D. Currently, The Harvard School of Nutrition is recommending that one ingest the following supplements daily.

Vitamin D3 2000 IU
Calcium 1200 MG
Magnesium 400 MG

Please read the labels on your supplements and assess your diet, to ascertain adequate intake.

Recent scientific research results suggest that Americans are not getting enough Vitamin D synthesis due to indoor activity.

Please note there is an ongoing debate in the medical field about this and these recommendations may change.
